Learn more about the significant benefits of immediate loading implants

You might have already heard about dental implants, but do you know everything about all the benefits of immediate loading implants? Do you know the exact meaning of immediate loading implant? Do you know the difference between a one-phase and a two-phase implant? If you don’t have the answer to these questions and think you are involved in this matter, do yourself a favor and read this article.

Our previous article discussed dental implants in general, suggesting that this is a much better solution to replace missing teeth than a traditional removable prosthesis. We were also talking about the benefits of dental implants, now focusing on the benefits of immediate loading implants.

Among the methods of restoring healthy teeth, dental implants are gradually gaining an advantage over other traditional procedures. The dental implant is the most significant dental achievement of the last 50 years, dramatically improving the quality of life for millions of people. In time, it has proven to be very effective practically and aesthetically. The only “negative” about implants is that the price is relatively high. The implants themselves increase the cost of implant dentures, as they make of high-purity titanium alloy, and this metal is undoubtedly costly.

When we talk about the benefits of dental implants, it is essential to know that nowadays, there are two types of implants and implantation methods widespread. One is the traditional two-phase implant, and the other is the one-phase implant, in other words, an immediate loading implant. Although in essentially both cases, it’s an artificial tooth root, there are significant differences between the two implants and implantation methods. Before you decide that you want a denture with implants, you need to know precisely the different characteristics of the two implants to make the right decision.

We have learned from earlier articles that dental implants provide incomparably better results than traditional removable, adhesive prostheses. We also know two common types of implant family: two-phase and immediate loading implants. Now let’s look at the characteristics of the two implants, the positive and negative aspects.

Benefits of conventional two-phase implants and implantation method
Two-phase implantation is only possible after careful examination and preparation. It is the oldest and most widespread implantation method in the world. Using it is a safe way to replace missing teeth with good results. Since these implants are usually shorter, they require specifically good-quality bone tissue to provide a stable foundation for the teeth. It also means that whoever clings to this type of implant and whose bone is inadequate will most likely need bone grafting.

As the name implies, this type of implantation takes place in two phases, making denture completion quite time-consuming and increasing the cost. Another negative is that, unlike a one-phase implant, it is a multi-part implant, which may also raise the price. The procedure consists of two main phases divided into further stages.

The oral surgeon then implants the needed number of two-phase implants. The first phase begins with a panoramic X-ray, a thorough examination to determine the mouth’s overall health. And also the adequacy of the quantity and quality of the jawbone. If all is well and necessary, the first step is removing teeth that are unsuitable for dental treatment. The procedure begins with the release of the bone by an incision of the gum.

The duration of the implantation depends on the number of implants to be implanted and partly on their position. Once the required number of implants has been implanted, the oral surgeon closes them with healing screws and sutures the gum back over them. Next is sampling to make the temporary denture. Finally, the long-term temporary denture will be tested, and if all is OK, the temporary denture(s) will be handed over.

That is followed by a so-called ossification and healing period of 4-6 months, during which the patient uses his temporary dentures.

The second phase follows after the ossification time, which begins with an X-ray and a thorough re-examination. If all implants are OK, the oral surgeon will incise the gum again to access the implants. It removes the previously inserted healing screws and inserts the so-called “abutments” connecting the implants to the crown or denture. The sampling and denture are then prepared and glued in the usual way.

The 5 most important benefits of immediate loading implants
1. The single-phase (immediate loading implant), as the name suggests, is implantable in a single phase with one intervention. In contrast, the two-phase implant is implanted on two occasions, with two interventions. One-phase – one operation, two-phase – two operations.
2. The immediate loading implant, as its other common name suggests, can be loaded immediately after implantation! The two-phase implant does not.
3. The immediate loading implant is designed to be implanted not only in the tooth bone but also in the jaw bone if necessary, for example, in case of bone deficiency. Two-phase is not.
4. The one-phase implant is implantable vertically at a 90-degree angle and, if necessary, at a different angle, depending on where the usable bone tissue locates in the jawbone. A two-phase implant cannot do this.
5. The one-phase immediate loading implant also means that after implantation, the long-term temporary denture is fixed on the implanted implants. The patient does not receive a removable denture that rests on the gums, but a perfectly functioning fixed denture. This is not the case with the two-phase implant.

In this article, we talked about the advantages of dental implants, mainly the benefits of immediate loading implants. As we learned, both implants are perfectly suitable for replacing the natural tooth root, but the one-phase, in other words, immediate loading implant, has definite advantages.
